Hello everyone, happy weekend! Its still pretty cold here in Shetland but we are hoping better weather will be coming soon, this week we are back with our coverage of our Wirsit Inspo (wool inspiration) posts from our Facebook and Instagram posts through March, April and May:
So that takes up to our most recent post, we will post another round up again in a few weeks, we hope these posts give you some inspiration! Happy Knitting!
A few weeks ago, we were tagged in a post on instagram about a fun project using our yarn! Emily Medhurst recently appeared on BBC Mastermind wearing a vest she made in 2ply Jumper Weight; it was representing her specialist subject: Transport for London moquette fabric.
Known for its colourful patterns and hard-wearing qualities, moquette has been a familiar sight on London’s public transport for decades. The designs have changed over the years, from bold geometric shapes to patterns inspired by the city itself, and many have become iconic in their own right. While it’s made to stand up to the wear and tear of daily journeys, moquette has also become a much-loved part of London’s design heritage, with plenty of people collecting, celebrating and finding new uses for these distinctive fabrics.
Being a knitter, Emily combined her love of textiles with her Specialist Subject! She chose the London Overground moquette fabric and reimagined its design as a colourwork motif, knitting a lovely vest to wear for her appearance on the programme. Emily used shades 4, 66, FC24, 34 and 1285 in her vest, and we think they look great together!
Ever since the programme aired, we’ve kept seeing clips of Emily’s appearance, and we love that our Shetland yarn was part of something that piqued so many people’s interest! Of course, here in Shetland we don’t have any trains, so it’s been a particularly fun bit of knitting for us to see.
Well done to Emily on her lovely vest, her appearance on Mastermind and all the excitement it’s created!
